Success in business is often measured by individual achievements, leadership positions, and professional milestones. But some of the most meaningful progress happens when we look beyond our own accomplishments and help create opportunities for others.

Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur and business leader, I have come to believe that when women support women, we do more than celebrate individual success. We create a foundation for collective growth, stronger leadership, and lasting change.

This belief inspired my Forbes Business Council article, The Importance of Women Supporting Women in the Workplace, published July 22, 2024.

Empowerment Is More Than Encouragement

Supporting women in the workplace is not simply about offering words of encouragement. It is about taking meaningful action to ensure that talented, capable women have opportunities to contribute, advance, and lead.

Sometimes that support means mentoring a colleague, sharing professional knowledge, making an introduction, or recommending someone for a leadership opportunity. Other times, it means advocating for a woman’s ideas when her voice is not being heard.

True empowerment happens when encouragement becomes opportunity.

As women in leadership, we have a responsibility to recognize potential in others and help create environments where that potential can flourish.

Creating Opportunities, Not Competition

For too long, professional success has sometimes been framed as a competition, particularly among women navigating industries where leadership opportunities have historically been limited.

But another woman’s success does not diminish our own.

When we replace competition with collaboration, we open the door to stronger professional relationships, diverse perspectives, and innovative thinking.

There is tremendous power in women sharing their experiences, celebrating one another’s accomplishments, and offering guidance through professional challenges.

The goal should never be to be the only woman at the table. The goal should be to make room for more women to join us.

The Responsibility of Women in Leadership

Leadership is not defined solely by a title or position. It is reflected in how we influence others, the opportunities we create, and the example we set.

As an entrepreneur, I understand that building a successful business requires determination, resilience, and the willingness to take risks. But I also recognize the importance of the people who offer encouragement, share wisdom, and believe in our potential along the way.

Those experiences remind me that leadership carries a responsibility to extend the same support to others.

Whether through mentorship, professional partnerships, community involvement, or simply acknowledging someone’s contributions, we can help build a culture where women feel valued and empowered to pursue their ambitions.

Building a Legacy Beyond Personal Success

One of the most rewarding aspects of leadership is knowing that our actions can positively influence someone else’s journey.

When we mentor an emerging entrepreneur, encourage a young professional, or advocate for greater representation in leadership, we contribute to something larger than ourselves.

We help create a future where women are not only invited to participate but are empowered to shape decisions, lead organizations, and inspire the next generation.

For me, success has never been only about the businesses we build or the milestones we achieve. It is also about the doors we open and the people we help along the way.

Moving Forward Together

Women supporting women should not be a passing conversation or an occasional celebration. It should be an ongoing commitment reflected in our workplaces, leadership decisions, and professional relationships.

We all have something valuable to contribute, whether it is our experience, our knowledge, our connections, or simply our willingness to believe in another woman’s potential.

Because real success is not just about how far we rise. It is also about how many others we help rise with us.
